Post-AGM Chamber of Commerce Membership & Press Release

Written as a release to Chamber Membership and the press for The Chamber of Commerce.

Following the 2019 Annual General Meeting of the Falkland Islands Chamber of Commerce we would like to congratulate our incoming 2019/2020 Board of Directors. We look forward to an exciting year encouraging and supporting a healthy business community in the Falkland Islands.

Newly elected to the board are Mike Summers as the Chair of the Board, Karen Drysdale as Treasurer, and Owen Betts and Eva Jaffray as Directors. With this, the Board of Directors stands as follows:

Chair: Mike Summers – (sole trader)
Vice-Chair: Sally Ellis – International Tours & Travel Ltd. (ITT)
Treasurer: Karen Drysdale – Consolidated Fisheries Ltd.

Regular Directors:
James Bates – Falkland Islands Fishing Companies Association
Owen Betts – O.K Haulage
Gareth Goodwin – Stanley Services Ltd.
Eugene Hurley – South Atlantic Atlantic Services Ltd. (SAAS)
Alison Inglis – Pinsent Masons LLP
Eva Jaffray – Seafish (Falklands) Ltd.
Nicholas Roberts – Executive Secretary of The Chamber

The Chamber thanks the retiring Directors, Pippa Christie and Bonnie Curtis, and also Bernie Goodwin and Andrea Clausen for their contributions to the Board and Chamber during their time as Treasurer and Chair respectively.

Directors play a vital role in ensuring the success and effectiveness of the Chamber of Commerce in representing the Chamber members and impacting the wider business environment. The Chamber of Commerce has a current and increasing membership of over 80 Falkland Islands based businesses of all sizes. As the Chamber continues to grow and seek further members it acts as a key player in the Falkland Islands for lobbying, service provision, and setting the business and economic agenda on behalf of all of our members and the business community.

Major targets of the Chamber of Commerce in the immediate future are based on the barriers to growth as identified in the Business Climate Survey of 2018 – these include Telecommunications bandwidth and cost, the skilled labour shortage, the long term policy and operational functionality of the tax system, and the need for a second Airlink.

The Chamber will continue to update the membership on these targets and other projects as the year goes on.
